SFBaby’s eponymous adult
Some of you may already be familiar with the story of how B got her (real) name:
SFMom and SFDad really liked the unique name of someone that was on the same sports team as SFDad from four or five years ago (who we’ll call Mrs. B). After B was conceived and we were thinking about baby names, we ended up deciding to “borrow” Mrs. B’s name if it turned out that we were having a girl.
SFDad never had any contact information or more than a small handful of conversations with his former teammate (and most of those conversations revolved around how much pain the coach was about to assign us). Since Mrs. B had vanished into thin air a couple of years back, this would have made a great story along the lines of, “We named our kid after this guy we met once while traveling in the remote hinterlands of Tajikistan, and although we’ll never meet him again, we really loved the name and we decided to go with it.”
We were all set to go with this story…until the day last year when SFMom was scheduled for the gender-determining ultrasound. That morning, SFDad randomly ran into Mrs. B! Many things had happened in the intervening four years (both SFDad and Mrs. B had left the original sports team, Mrs. B had moved to the east coast and back, and so forth) but we still recognized each other and the timing was perfect.
Fast-forwarding a couple of months to the present, SFBaby is indeed a girl. Aside from minor differences in spelling, B and Mrs. B share the same name! We also found out that B and Mrs. B also have almost-identical middle names too…but that part was just a coincidence.
We decided that we needed to have a little meet-up with B and Mrs. B last month. A good time was had by all and you can see the smiling Bs to your right!
