On the phone in her corner window office

Aside from taking care of the little one, SFDad has been keeping busy doing a bunch of volunteer work for a local nonprofit. This work involves making a lot of phone calls to people in business-type situations, as well as the occasional in-person meeting.

This month, I’ve been on the phone for about 15 hours, which easily blows through all of my cell phone minutes. To save myself from $0.20/minute overage charges, I have been using Skype over the computer speakerphone for many of the calls. This generally works fine…except for the fact that I’m using the speakerphone while there is an infant scurrying about in the same room. I try to schedule most of my calls during her naps, but this is not always possible.

Of course, even the best-behaved of little ones cannot stay completely silent, so I’m using the mute button regularly. Since the work is a volunteer effort, I can (mostly) get away with it. On the other hand, it would seem to be next to impossible to do real work in a business setting with this type of background distraction. I know that some people do it, but…how?
