The March Goes On
SFDad thought that it was just a fluke, but no: she was intent on practicing her mad standing skills as much as possible, as she demonstrated a couple of times that evening.
After that, we still thought we were lucky because she could only push herself up into the standing position, which reduced the number of ways she could get herself into trouble. This theory was clearly disproved on Saturday morning when I set her down for her nap, only to return and find her doing a baby pull-up to stand at the edge of her crib.
We certainly have mixed feelings about all of this. Although we are certainly thrilled to see her learning how to do new things, we do wonder about the wisdom of having her starting to stand (and presumably starting to climb things) after only six and a half months. Do we really want to have a walking babymonster at month nine (or however long it’s supposed to take from here)?
Undeterred by our parental hesitancy, the milestone march continues. As SFDad said recently to a friend: I’d batten down all of the hatches, except that I don’t know where the hatches are…

Good job M & D. She is a mover and a shaker. L, gm & pa M
And she can do it in her sleepsack!!! Determination!
Eeek! Your lives are over!!! WALKING BABY WALKING BABY ALERT! (We rearranged the living room and finished installing our first wall-mounted baby gate yesterday.. After the gate experience, we’re lucky if Katie’s first words don’t wind up being four-letter ones…)
Incidentally, do strangers refer to B as a boy? Not that it matters or anything, but for some reason everyone assumes Katie is a boy. I can’t tell if for some baby reason she LOOKS like a boy (as if babies can look like anything….) or if it’s just a natural tendency to refer to all babies as “he.”
She often wears girly things (you know: pink, dresses, tiaras, ad infinitum) and we don’t have much trouble in those cases. But when she is wearing some of her androgynous clothing, yeah, we get our fair share of “he”s…
