I Can’t Stand It Anymore

Multitasking (Take II)  If You're Happy and You Know It, Stomp Your Feet

If you're happy and you know it, stomp your feet.

As you may have read, it was only a few days ago that B learned how to stand up. It quickly became the only thing she wanted to do. (“Even while nursing,” SFMom pointed out.)

Whatever happened to crawling, anyway? The little one has been scooting around the house for a month, and she had actually taken her first “real” crawling steps a few days late last week. She seems to have abandoned any real interest in crawling now that she can get on her feet and look at the world.

SFMom and SFDad have hardwood floors, so we usually construct a circular “pillow fortress” in the middle of our living room (on top of our mat of interlocking rubber squares) before SFMom leaves for work.

This fortress functioned very well as a playpen-slash-padded-sanatorium to contain a pre-crawling baby, but she is now able to push herself over to the other side of the pillows with a little effort. It seemed like the days of the fortress were numbered…until we placed a giant musical block in the middle of it. Now that the wee one can use the block to push herself up into the standing position, it’s a huge draw and she isn’t quite so interested in breaking out of jail.

We are only slightly worried about what will happen when the (pillow) walls come down.
