Keeping a Lid On It

Wet and Joe's O'ed: Not taking it lying down.

Wet and Joe's O'ed: Not taking it lying down.

Earlier this week, when I was trying to give yet another new food to the baby, SFBaby made her milk sign. After another abortive attempt or two with the new-to-her egg yolks (verdict: DO NOT LIKE!), I decided that it was time to give up and transition to the milk bottle that my master previously requested.

Unfortunately for SFBaby, I forgot to screw on the bottle top after using the milk to moisten the egg yolks. You can guess where this went: instead of actually feeding the baby, SFDad instead sloshed 1/3 of a bottle of breastmilk onto the high chair and the baby’s lap. Poor SFBaby, drenched in milk and Joe’s O’s. (At least only the milk was my fault.)

Although the high chair had definitely seen better days to begin with (think: a week’s worth of avocado and banana that SFBaby somehow managed to get her hands into), this was already SFBaby’s second outfit for the day. Although the baby didn’t seem to mind at all, SFDad was not thrilled:

Before SFMom left for work that morning, she had lovingly installed a “My Dad’s a Geek” onesie onto the baby (which we got from a good friend who was coming over for dinner that night). On SFMom’s way out, I remember mentioning that the odds of the onesie lasting all the way through the evening were slim. SFMom agreed, but we didn’t bother to change it.

This fun outfit lasted all of an hour until a pootastrophe forced SFDad to change it. The second outfit managed to survive until the 3 pm feeding. The third made it through dinner, so SFDad was very lucky!

  • Aha! The three-outfit day! ouch!! I was wondering what you are feeding SFBaby these days (mucho important for the week we are planning to visit – our freezer is full of pureed carrot, green bean, potato, and fruit cubes…..) Are Joe’s O’s some kind of low-sugar better-for-you Cheerio? Katie likes egg yolks but she had a sense of humor failure over an avocado a few weeks ago. Don’t know what caused it, and it hasn’t been a problem since. Whatever.

Joe’s O’s are the Trader Joe’s version of Cheerios. They are way cheaper ($3/box) and taste pretty much the same.

Food for SFBaby? She’s currently on avocado, banana, yoghurt, pear and Joe’s O’s. Notable failures thus far have included sweet potato and egg yolk. SFBaby has yet to eat actual “baby food” out of a jar (although we’ll see how long that lasts).

I admit that SFMom is in charge of food selection, so I really just follow directions from my other master in this regard.

  • No Yolk!! For special occasions you dress your child up a few minutes before you have that moment.

  • Love the “my dad’s a geek” outfit! But … no e-commerce-affiliate link to buying Trader Joe’s O’s, or a “my day was pootasrophic” onesie? What self-respecting blogging technologist would forgo an upsell link opportunity? Is dad a geek IMPOSTER? Or worse… a CANADIAN SOCIALIST, trying to undermine the delicate platform of capitalism on which this great era of information technology is riding?! Hold on SFBaby — we’re saddling up our 70lb rescue mutt and coming to take you away.
