Earlier today, SFDad went out for a stroll with his friend N and her twintastic baby daughters S and C. The timing of our outing was going to overlap with SFBaby’s morning nap, so this was one of the very few times that SFDad actually bothered to set up the stroller and drop the baby in it.

After a little bit of walking around, SFDad felt like he was naked: not only did he not have a baby dangling off his chest, but he also didn’t have a heavy diaper bag slung around his shoulder. The Baby Bjorn had been his MO for the last six months, and carrying the baby in the Bjorn is something that he really enjoys, so it certainly felt weird. Unfortunately for SFDad, SFBaby keeps getting bigger and bigger, and there will eventually come a point at which she is too heavy to carry…which will be a very sad occasion.

In the meantime, people occasionally ask if the Bjorn is causing any back pain. Surprisingly, this is not the case: given that SFDad has been using a front-side baby carrier since day one, he is assuming that both the load and his back strength have been gradually increasing in lockstep over time, meaning that there is no problem (at least for now).

SFDad also held twintastic baby S for a while during our walk: she is three months old, and although she is very healthy, she weighs a mere nine pounds and she felt like a delicate feather in comparison!

  • How did SFBaby like the stroller? Did she nap well? Katie went through a phase where the stroller was very uncool – fortunately it wasn’t long-lived, because I’m not so keen on carrying 22 pounds on my front.

B definitely doesn’t mind the stroller–she is happy so long as she has a set of rolling scenery to watch, regardless of whether she is strapped to my chest or stuck in her little chariot.

Napping is definitely better in the stroller than in the Bjorn, but she’s at the age now where she doesn’t get as solid (or as long) of a nap if she’s dozing in the stroller versus lying in her crib.

Note to self: try not to take B out when she is supposed to be sleeping! It’s just hard to plan, since her morning nap time varies depending on exactly when she wakes up, and there is a lot of variance in that.

And in case you were wondering, “strollerphobic” refers to me, not SFBaby!
