She generally only goes to sleep while nursing, so in an attempt to get her to associate sleep with other things, we started playing a special set of lullaby songs every time we put her down.

We’ve been using a fantastic set of both adult- and baby-friendly lullabies given to us by friendly neighbor to the north. We loaded the CD onto SFDad’s otherwise-useless-iPod-with-the-broken-screen, set it up to repeat the playlist continuously, and then plugged it into a small set of unamplified speakers in SFBaby’s room.

While we adore these songs to bits, using this routine three times a day means that they can occasionally get a bit…well, overplayed. On the other hand, since we’re trying to associate these with sleep, we don’t really want to mix it up with our classic rock playlists either.

A month or so ago, SFDad forgot to set the repeat option properly before leaving the room. The lullabies played first, but after about half an hour, this resulted in SFBaby slumbering away to some of SFMom’s hip-hop tracks. Oops. It’s a good thing that SFBaby doesn’t know the baby signs for “Hey bitches, where’s my milk at?”

  • YO MAMA. Yes, I know what you mean by overplayed. I still play the same lullabies (only at night), except recently the stereo has been unplugged…huh, maybe friendly dad from the north is trying to tell me something.. We’ve been listening a little bit to Duck in NYC, but Katie’s really flipped over Raffi. I think she’d sleep over night on the sidewalk in front of the ticket booth for tickets. Her favorites are “Baby Beluga” and “Songs for Singing.” She does that cute little baby butt wiggly thing when she hears him. We’ll bring her iPod with us and share… p.s. the comment words down here are “schoen fate.” how poetic.
