Bye Bye
For a while, we’ve been using that phrase in the conventional way when we are taking leave from friends—but we’ve already found additional scenarios in which to employ it:
SFBaby recently picked up the annoying habit of taking (unwanted) food off her dinner tray, reaching over the side of the tray, and dropping the food on the floor while simultaneously saying “no no no no.” Up until fairly recently, we used to bend over, pick up the food and put it back on her tray (like chumps).
A while ago, we decided that the best response to this behavior was to say “bye bye” and wave at the food as it rests on the ground. This is all well and good and she appears to be getting the message.
Earlier this week, we were on a video call with the grandparents-from-the-west. We happened to be demonstrating one of SFBaby’s new toys, Sophie the squeaky squeeze-toy giraffe.
After the video demonstration, SFBaby grabbed the toy, dropped it on the ground, said “bye bye”, waved at it, and then stepped on it with both feet (which resulted in a giant squeak!). We have been put in our place.
