Excuse Me, I Am in a Bit of a Harry

San Francisco - Posted by SFDad on May 15, 2009 at 9:11 am

One of SFBaby’s favorite activities is climbing stairs and other objects. Often, if we set SFBaby down when we walk into the ground floor of our apartment building, she will try to climb all the way to the roof—even bypassing our open door (where SFMom or SFDad is usually beckoning).

We came back home from our 1½ week trip to Canada this past weekend, and SFDad had been feeling spoiled with the large contingent of grandparents and relatives who were happy to take SFBaby off his hands for the better part of the day. Realizing that he was going to be left alone again with SFBaby during the weekdays, SFDad got creative and found some interesting new things to do with the baby.

Given SFBaby’s affection for stairs, he came up with a seemingly-perfect idea: why not go to the Harry Street stairs and let the baby loose? Harry Street is a semi-secret “street” in San Francisco that is actually a wooden staircase with 281 steps (or so they say) and it is surrounded by a lush garden.

Did she make it all the way to the top? Did it cure her stair addiction once and for all? You’ll have to watch the video to find out! Even though the video is sped up 4X, this is still an unusually-long movie by SFDad standards. I promise that the soundtrack makes it all worthwhile. I originally had a rockin’ soundtrack, but the Gods of YouTube decided that my soundtrack was not “fair use” of a copyrighted work, so I had to replace it with a cheesy MIDI version. Please accept my apologies.

That sped up movie of stairclimbing is adorable! Great activity just before a nap! AJ

Did she go down the stairs? Holding on to the rail as she went up was a remarkable endeavor.

Most impressive. We need to start shopping for a climbing harness and shoes for the next birthday.
