Our cousins-from-the-east were in town for this past Fourth of July weekend (along with their parents, of course). Our earliest readers may recall that Cousin E is about nine months older than SFBaby…and as you might guess, they were great playmates. They loved playing on the floor, chasing each other, and even jumping up and down inside the crib (all while egged on by Cousin E’s older brother).

Unfortunately, Cousin E had to go back to Boston on Monday, and SFBaby was very sad that she left. SFBaby’s word for her cousin was “Em-may”, and ever since we dropped them off at the airport, she has been chanting “Em-may” almost nonstop. SFDad has been trying to use his intonation to signal that Cousin E isn’t going to be back for a while, but he realizes that this type of concept is hard to convey with tone alone.

This also reminds SFDad that he really needs to get on the playgroup bandwagon. He hasn’t yet invested the time to find regular playmates for SFBaby, outside of the kids she runs into in the playground and an infrequent visit from other folks who have kids of varying ages. This time with Cousin E reminded him of how much she seems to enjoy playing with others. SFDad needed another project to keep him busy anyway, right?

We’ve got the same thing going on with Canada Baby. She walks around like she owns the playground…complete with waves to other kids, and handing them toys. I don’t know where she gets this godfather like attitude. But maybe she’s just looking for a playmate.
